When we get fever we feel hot. But there are many other environmental and lifestyle factors, age, medications, hormones and sometimes emotional states that may cause body heat to rise without any fever.

Let’s look at some possible causes of feeling excessive hot without any fever:

Environmental or Lifestyle causes:

Hot and humid weather makes us feel irritable and exhausted. At times, prolonged exposure to sun or staying outdoor during a sunny day can cause heat related conditions like flushed face, sunburn, heat exhaustion or heat stroke under extreme conditions. A person must be careful when going out on a hot and humid sunny day.

Food and drink:

Drinking too much caffein, alcohol or eating spicy junk food may also raise body heat. This may lead to digestive issues at times.

Clothing:

Wearing uncomfortable clothes sometimes lead to excess heat in the body leading to excessive sweat and uneasiness. Wearing light cotton and linen clothes in summer can keep one feeling relaxed and cool.

  1. Drink cool liquids: There are many varieties of summer coolants that can help reduce the body temperature leaving you feeling refreshed and energetic. Drinks like lassi, sattu sherbat, lemonade, Bael or wood apple juice keep your body cool and protects you from heat exhaustion. Soak mint leaves in water overnight and drink it the next morning. It’s a natural body coolant and is super refreshing.
  2. Apply cold therapy to key points of the body:  Apply cold or ice water to certain parts of the body where the veins are close to the surface such as the wrists, neck, chest, and temples can quickly lower the temperature of the blood running through these veins. This allows the body to feel cooler. Dipping feet in cold water is also helpful in reducing body heat. Try this before going to bed for that relaxed good night’s sleep.

It is advisable to eat light food which is easy on the tummy preferably home cooked meals. It is also advisable to include curd, buttermilk, lassi and other summer coolants in your diet to help your gut keep cool. Vegetables and fruits with high water content like Bottle gourd, Watermelon, musk melon, cucumber, pumpkin are best to eat during summers.
