- Wake up Early: Imagine waking up just after dawn when everyone else is still in bed. It gives you that extra time which you can utilize to become your absolute best. Create a morning routine which can include things like journaling, reading inspiring books, planning for the day ahead, exercise and meditation.
- Include any kind of exercise in your daily routine: Moving your body vigorously daily is one habit that will change your health exponentially. Exercise is the elixir for an exceptional life. - Meditation: In our lives most of us are busy climbing the mountains and later realizing when it’s too late that we have climbed the wrong mountain. Meditation gives you that stillness and solitude to find your truest self. In our daily lives we are too overwhelmed in fulfilling and meeting our daily responsibilities. Meditation will keep you centered and strong amidst the hustle and grind of regular life. It will give you clarity of thought to take better decisions in life. When practiced daily meditation leaves you profoundly relaxed and happy. It is best to start the day with a mediation session. Start small with a 5 min or 10 min mediation and slowly increase it to an hour or more.
- Take a digital detox: In today’s world we are constantly looking for an external stimulus that will give us happiness and an escape from our problems. But this happiness is temporary and in no time we feel anxious and the urgency to check our phones or mails. We are bombarded with endless notifications, social media posts, reels and many other online distractions. This noisy and superficial external environment is slowly making us jaded and apathetic. Let’s hit a pause button every day for some time and live consciously. Avoid screen time for at least one hour after you wake up and one hour before you go to bed. Stop looking for external validations. You are more than you think you are. You are complete in yourself.
- Nature walk: Our modern life is designed in a way that we hardly connect with mother nature. We are so used to living amidst brick and mortar surroundings we seldom spend time in nature. Go for nature walk at least once in a day or at least once in a week. Spend some alone time in nature. You will see a changed perspective about life and also achieve a clear and positive mind for better decision making.
- A little Bit of Sunshine for a Shining Life: Yes you heard it right!! Research says that sunshine helps you release your Serotonin levels and thereby increasing your happiness quotient. It is also reported that getting exposed to sunlight during the first half of the day increases your Vitamin D levels. So get a little to moderate sunshine every day for a healthy mind and body.
- Breathing Exercise: As said by the Greatest of All Men Breath is the Thread and your Mind is the Kite. If you want to control your mind control how you breathe. Modern life challenges have made our breath shallow and fast. It gives signals to our Sympathetic Nervous System to activate the Flight and Fight response which in turn causes havoc to our immune system. Our body developed this flight and fight response to help us face danger when we were hunters and gatherers. But now times have changed. We no more have to fight with wild animals for food and survival. Deep breathing also sometimes referred to as Diaphragmatic breathing relaxes your mind and promotes mental and emotional wellbeing. Pranayama which is the practice of breath control includes various breathing techniques which helps to calm the mind, reduce stress and improve overall wellness.
- Spend some time in silence and solitude: We often confuse Solitude with loneliness. But there is a remarkable difference between the two. Solitude is your space where you spend time with yourself, reflect on your life and your thoughts. Loneliness is when you feel you need others’ company to make your life more complete. We are conditioned by society in a way that we are constantly trying to follow the herd and fit it. In this effort we often forget who we really are and lose touch with our truest self. Spending time in silence and solitude can actually bring out our most lively self and feel more wholesome in our day to day life.
- Play: Have you ever noticed how a child smiles and feels joyful when left to play. As grown ups we forget how to be joyful naturally. We are constantly looking for material comforts and external distractions which we believe will make us happy. Try to learn and engage in some playful activity once in a while. This can be playing with your child. You may also try some sports. It will help you relax your mind and at the same time raise your happiness levels.
- Laugh like there is no tomorrow: Laughter is beneficial for both physical and mental health. It helps reduce stress, balance our mood and emotions. It reduces cortisol and hence reduce inflammation. Laughter also promotes healing by releasing all the happy hormones like endorphins and serotonin. Sharing laughter strengthens social bonds and induces feeling of belongingness.
